My heart nearly stopped with a little over a minute left in the Steelers/Colts playoff game today. This was the kind of game that put fans of both teams through an emothional rollercoaster ride right up to the last thirty seconds.
I have always loved listening to the radio. Not the huge corporate radio stations that play the same songs every hour, but local radio stations that are in touch with the community. I can remember listening to a station, KWON, in Bartlesville, and having a crush on a particular DJ, purely based on his voice and how he conveyed a sense of knowing everyone who was listening. I used to imagine becoming a news announcer for an NPR station. I dont know how or why I didn't follow this dream, but there you go. Twenty-some-odd years later and I'm still a big radio fan.
It's an annual tradition at the Montessori Childrens House. Each year the staff interviews the kids and Amy and I are intrigued by Owen's responses this year. If you could be an animal, what would you be? A Tiger, because I like cats. If you could be any age you wanted, how old would you be? Five, cause I want to grow up. What do you like most about yourself? My brother, and playing by myself. My brother has an "rrr" in his name. Where is your favorite place in your home? My room.
Note: I lost a significant portion of this post at some point. I rewrote what I thought I had written.
I grew up in a house that always had a dog. Alphie was the first in a line of terrier/poodle mixes in our household. Clifford came next and is the dog I remember always being there waiting for me after school.
You know, on the way over, I decided to listen to a rock station to get into the mood. And I heard a line in one of those tribal passages that I thought was the keynote for this evening. "Everybody have fun tonight. Everybody Wang Chung tonight."
